Jewish Folk Art

Excerpted from Fromer Fund Grant, Jewish Federation of the Greater East Bay: "This genre of mixed-media painting is inspired by Jewish artists such as Harry Lieberman, Ben Shahn, and Shalom of Safed. These artists tell the story of their childhoods, of Jewish history and painful memories of war & anti-semitism through beautiful allegorical narrative imagery. Seeing this process of nostalgia, memory and feeling come alive on the canvas awoke my own discovery. My own refined, highly technical figure painting transformed into a folkloric narrative of symbols, imagery and Hebrew text."
